Description
Byway passes through thousands of acres of untouched wetlands, including four national wildlife refuges, salt and freshwater resources. It also features Civil War and archeological digsites, and miles of natural beaches, marshlands, and prairie lands. Visitors can enjoy wildlife viewing, bicycling, hunting, boating, swimming and other recreational activities. Following Hurricane Rita, which hit southwest Louisiana on September 23, 2005, the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road has been in a state of recovery.
Start/End Point
Beginning on SR 27 near Sulphur and Lake Charles, byway cuts through the marshlands of southern Calcasieu and Cameron parishes and hugs the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Other entrances are located on LA 82 at the Texas state line and the Vermilion Parish line; exit 36 from I-10; and just north of the Lake Charles Regional Airport on LA 385.
Time to Allow
4.5 hours.
